RECIPE 86
Crispy Ginger Men
GRANNY SAYS: A classic
pastry that looks too good to eat! When Cindy made these, her three-year-old Emily loved helping her to roll out the
dough and press it in the ginger-man mold.
| 2 1/2 cups unbleached flour |
1 tsp. ground ginger |
| 3/4 tsp. baking soda |
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon |
| 1/2 tsp. ground cloves |
1/2 cup unsalted butter |
| 1/2 cup sugar |
1 large egg |
| 1/2 cup unsulfured (light) molasses |
|
- Sift the dry ingredients into a medium bowl.
- With a mixer, beat butter until light, adding sugar, molasses, and
then egg.
- Stir in dry ingredients to form a soft dough and refrigerate about
4 hours.
- When dough is firm, cut the cookies into gingerbread-man shapes and
bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.
- Decorate and serve.
Granny adds: You'll wonder if you've misread the directions when
you start mashing the shortbread-cookie batter into its pan
and then can this be right? you cut it up like pizza!
Yep, that's right, all right. These, like the ginger men in the
previous recipe, are extra fun to make with children!
