The Civil War Letters
of James Edward Weymouth

After enlisting as a private in Company A of the 6th Louisiana
Regiment, in June of 1861, nineteen-year-old James Edward Weymouth
hardly guessed what the next years would bring to him. He was made
Lieutenant in May of 1863, wounded in 1864, captured in March of 1865,
and he did not return home until well after the war's end. This is his
story, told through his original, unedited letters that were carefully
preserved through several generations of women in his family. They are a moving record of the terrible,
formative years that changed a raw youth into a firm, courageous
man. Illustrated with photographs and several facsimilies from the
original letters.
